Meet Shyloh! She came to us at 4 months old as a rescue from San Antonio, Texas. She was extremely timid at first and took some time to warm up. Once she did, she’s been very loving and playful, and just the perfect all around dog. She absolutely loves any and all other dogs. Loves to run around in the yard, play fetch and go on walks. She is energetic, although not high energy. She is perfectly content laying at your feet. She loves to ride in the car and hang out with her human! Shyloh has gone through PetSmart’s training of Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. She knows, sit, lay-down, shake, come, stay. She is great on walks. She is crate trained and actually loves her crate. She was fully potty trained. If your family loves the outdoors, enjoys quit time, and wants a travel buddy then Shyloh is for you!
|Personality:||Goofy, Intelligent, Trainable, Protective|
|Activity Level:||Medium energy. Always ready for play, but can also just hang. Recommend daily walks.|
|Training Level:||Basic Training (ex. “Come”, “Sit”, “Down”, “Stay”)|
|Reason for Rehoming:||
She has fear aggression. She is not at all an aggressive dog but certain things (mostly loud noises) have caused her to bite when she has felt threatened. She has bit my oldest adult son while he was playing around pretending to kill a spider, hitting a chair. She also bit my adult daughter while several of us were watching a football game and my daughter and I both flew out of our chairs jumping and screaming and she lunged at my daughter. Neither bite was serious or needed medical attention and happened clearly out of fear. She also lunged at a 2 year old that was banging a toy on the coffee table. Thankfully I had a hold of her and nothing happened. We are expecting grandkids in the near future and it has become a big fear for family members to bring children around her. Although she has been around children with no problems, I certainly understand their concern. We have spoken to both our vet and trainer (and I have read a few books on fear aggression). We have been working with her and feel that she has made progress. I truly believe in time this can become a non issue for her. But it will take some patience and some willingness to work with her. She is very bright and trainable. Because of her fear aggression, Shyloh would not be good for a family with children.
|Preferences for New Home:||
The ideal home for Shyloh would be a couple or single women willing to give her the time to warm up. Once she does she won’t leave your side!. She is protective of her owner so she must warm up to strangers. Someone willing to take her on walks and throw a ball. She loves to cuddle. Loves her toys and is great entertaining herself (although will want to be in the same room with her owner). She has not come across another dog she doesn’t love. She has been around lots of dogs of all ages. She and our cat are best friends. I believe having another dog to take the lead or teacher her that things are okay would be a good thing. I think she would be fine with a man in the house, but probably wouldn’t bond as well. I don’t recommend children, since she is unpredictable.
I am willing to drive most anywhere in Oregon for a meet and greet.
