Description:

Hi, I am Leila!I live for love and affection when I am inside with my humans. But outdoors, I become alive. I love walks, hikes, or the dog park. Any activity outdoors, I am always ready! At home, I love to snuggle with my Human, preferably under a blanky! I am all legs like the Supermodel type, but sometimes I forget how tall and a bit clumsy I am, especially when I get excited! I am very sweet, gentle, and sensitive and still learning to get more confident each day.I wasn’t blessed with a nice beginning, but I was very fortunate and got a second chance in life. I have been abused and neglected for basic needs by a male as a puppy; that is why it has been hard for me to trust humans, especially males. I was terrified and didn’t want anyone touching me because I thought they would hit me. I also used to bark because I was afraid. So I guess that made me unadoptable. But then someone took a chance on me and saved my life. My current mom rescued me from death row and has been working on me ever since. I love her so much, and I never leave her side. They say Dobermans are like velcro, so maybe it is in my genes. She has been very patient with teaching me how to trust and receive love. It feels so good, and it sure made me a lover girl! I love your attention and love to cuddle and receive belly rubs all day if possible. I will follow you wherever you go because I have to make sure you are ok. That is my nature. I am quite like a shadow and won’t bother you. Would you be ok with that? I learned to love men again, and we are friends now once I get to know you. I am ok with children, though I am big and strong and can be unintentionally clumsy sometimes. So I think bigger kids are a better match for me. I am ok with other doggies but if I had a choice I’d love to be your only true love. I am still sensitive and need a gentle human, not too overpowering and strong; that scares me! I have a big bark, sounds scar but that’s all. I hear everything, so I am an excellent watchdog for sure. I am ok with small and big dogs as long as they like me and have great energy. I even like cats; they fascinate me. And did I mention I would die for food? I am still working on eating slower, but it is so ingrained in me to eat fast because I wasn’t fed often when I was young. When my mom got me, I was skin and bones, but now I am strong and beautiful; she even cooks for us. But I am not picky, don’t worry. In case you wonder, I am great at walking on the leash and can give you big shakes and big kisses. I also know how to sit, down, and stay. And I even let you brush my teeth and file my nails once I get to know you. I am ready now for my forever home where I can stay forever safe and warm.

Personality: Athletic, Intelligent, Trainable, Protective, Gentle, Excitable
Activity Level: Medium energy. Always ready for play, but can also just hang. Recommend daily walks.
Training Level: Basic Training (ex. “Come”, “Sit”, “Down”, “Stay”)
